Are you task-oriented, organized, and enjoy customer service? Do you enjoy working alongside other changemakers in an inviting and professional setting? Then volunteering at the Cape Fear Literacy Council may be the opportunity you’re looking for!
CFLC’s non-instructional volunteers help with operational duties like bulk mailings, covering reception, staffing events, and more. We offer numerous ways for volunteers to join us in fulfilling our mission: to provide personalized education so adults can transform their lives and contribute to a stronger Wilmington.
Volunteer with the Cape Fear Literacy Council today — and share this opportunity with a friend, because giving back is more fun together!
- Events Team: Help CFLC Staff behind the scenes to prepare for our virtual and in-person events. Duties begin in May for our Luncheon and include office help, event set up, staffing event, and breaking down the event. Volunteers may participate in some or all capacities.
- Mailing Team: Prepare letters and newsletters for bulk mailing. Requires labeling, stuffing inserts, sealing, and stamping. Must be able to adhere to deadlines. Various mailings include addressing envelopes. Projects begin in March and continue throughout the year.
- Weekly Reception Team: Greet visitors, tutors, and students. Answer phones, direct calls to staff, provide information about CFLC and our programs, and accept book donations. Responsible for light admin tasks. 9a-12p one day per week. Long-term.
- Books Committee: The Friends of Literacy Bookshop is our platform to sell used books on Amazon.com, and proceeds from book sales support CFLC’s tutoring programs. Help process donations and ship book orders.
