How much does it cost to become a member?
There are three possible levels of membership. Foundation at $1,000, Champion at $2,500, and Visionary at $5,000+. There are no taxes or fees involved; your membership is 100% tax-deductible.

Why is there a five-year commitment?
A five-year commitment allows CFLC to strategically budget. Contributions that are “unrestricted,” like the Literacy Trust, ensure that CFLC can fill gaps between restricted funding sources. Having a five-year commitment allows CFLC to more accurately forecast which other funding sources we will need to apply to.

What is unrestricted funding, and why is it important?
Unrestricted funding is not tied to specific outcomes. For example, a donation can be used to pay unexpected expenses, such as an HVAC repair, or operational costs that many grants don’t cover, like health insurance for employees or utility bills. Often, grants have restrictions, for example, a grant for workbooks can only be used to pay for workbooks. Both types of funding are important! Unrestricted funding lets us respond more flexibly to both community and organizational needs.

Are there benefits to joining Literacy Trust?
Yes! Through a dedicated Literacy Trust Newsletter, more frequent contact with the Development Director, and donor events over the course of the year, members who are interested in being more engaged with CFLC have more opportunities to do so. They are often privy to updates before our general audience and may be asked to provide input for some of our decision-making. Additionally, free tickets to some events are part of how we express our gratitude.

Can I make monthly payments?
Yes, many members pay in monthly installments. Please contact Terry O’Sullivan at 910-251-0911 ext. 105 or tosullivan@cfliteracy.org to set up your recurring payment.

Can I make a membership donation from my DAF?
Yes. It’s as simple as sending a check and contacting either Lisa Williams, Development Director, or Terry O’Sullivan, Business Manager, to notify CFLC of your intention to join the Literacy Trust. CFLC’s EIN, or tax-exempt number is 58-1613254.

Can I become an anonymous Literacy Trust 100 member?
Absolutely. When you fill out your commitment form, please check the box that says, “Please keep my membership anonymous.” CFLC will honor your wishes.

How does the process work?
If you would like to become a Literacy Trust 100 member, here are some things to know about joining:

  • Whether you donate online, use a credit card over the phone, or mail in a check, please contact the Development Director, Lisa Williams (lwilliams@cfliteracy.org or 910-251-0911 ext. 106), to notify CFLC of your decision to become a member.
  • If you are open to a face-to-face meeting, either the Executive Director or the Development Director will reach out to set that up. It would be great to get to know more about you and your interest in CFLC!
  • You will be asked to fill out a Literacy Trust Commitment Form. It is a simple one-page document that you can return to CFLC so that your preferences and interests are communicated. The information you share in this document is confidential.
