Requirements
- No teaching or foreign language experience needed
- Be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate
- Complete a 9-hour training workshop (or 1.5 hours for Digital Literacy). Materials and certification fees apply ($20 for AL, $30 for ESL, $10 fpr DL)
- Sign a confidentiality agreement to protect your student’s privacy
- Agree to a 6-month commitment (1:1 tutors) or a full 10 week session (ESL classes)
Our volunteer tutors are the heart of everything we do. Donating your time and expertise allows us to keep our services free for those who need us most.
In New Hanover and Brunswick counties, it is estimated that 122,000+ people read at a basic or below basic level.
