Recap: Words of Inspiration

We’re still feeling the energy and gratitude from the opening night of Words of Inspiration, held July 25th at ACME Studios in the heart of Wilmington’s Brooklyn Arts District. Hosted by the Cape Fear Literacy Council, this powerful community art show brought together words and visuals to celebrate the connection between literacy and artistic expression.
More than 80 stunning works of art by 30 different artists filled the gallery—each inspired by poetry, fiction, memoirs, mythology, and other forms of the written word. From multilingual pieces to interactive installations, the exhibit invited guests to reflect on how words shape our lives, our stories, and our sense of connection.

A popular feature of the night was the collaborative paper crane activity. Visitors folded cranes in honor of inspiration, transformation, and hope. Some even took one home, while others left theirs to be displayed alongside the remaining artwork as a tribute to the many guests who came as observers and left as contributors.
As attendees explored the exhibit, they were invited to consider not just the beauty of language, but also the impact of literacy on personal and collective understanding. “Words of Inspiration” aims to deepen appreciation for how reading and writing empower individuals, connect communities, and unlock creativity.

Importantly, the event also raised awareness for CFLC’s mission. For more than 40 years, Cape Fear Literacy Council has provided free literacy education to adults in our region. This show is a reminder that every piece of art, and every word that inspires it, carries the potential to change lives.
If you missed opening night or want a second look, the exhibit is still open! Artwork is available for purchase by appointment through August 14, 2025.
Thank you again to everyone who came out to support CFLC’s first-ever art show. Whether you were inspired by a painting, touched by a quote, or moved to fold a crane, we’re so grateful you were part of this unforgettable night.
