Literacy Council Reopens by Appointment Only
Updated 6/22/2020: CFLC’s Program returns to Building B!
We are happy to be reopening Building B to resume our program on Monday, June 22nd. In order to use the building, tutors and students must make an appointment. We want to do our best to make sure CFLC follows the CDC’s best practices for physical distancing in order to make our environment as safe as possible.
Students and tutors will need to wear a mask at all times in the building (CFLC will provide one if necessary). The doors will be kept locked; all guests must ring the doorbell to enter and check-in at the front desk. Everyone will be asked health screening questions.
While various agencies are responding differently to distancing guidelines, both in our community and across the nation, CFLC’s population tends to be in a high-risk category. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during our first phase of reopening.
March 30, 2020: Our offices and classrooms remain closed to the public at this time.
We will continue to follow executive orders issued by NC Governor Cooper, as well as guidelines and recommendations put forth by the CDC, in an effort to ensure the well-being of our staff, our students, and our families. CFLC’s mission is going strong.
Literacy Council staff has been working remotely, and many of our volunteers and students have as well. In our survey of tutors, we got this happy response that some good work continues by phone/computer-based meetings:
“Actually, Barbara and I are studying together! At the same time, and for 1 1/2 hours on both Mondays and Wednesdays!” ~ Tutor, Margaret
[A couple of things they are focusing on are]:
- “Reading her Sunday School Lesson. She even dropped off a King James Version of her Bible. Mine is the Catholic edition — while the thoughts are basically the same, the words are not, and in this instance, the words are the most important!
- Continuing to read “Becoming” by Michelle Obama. While our pace is slow, we are reading more of it than when we met at CFLC.”
