Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall: Cape Fear Literacy Council’s Path to Freedom
Carolina Bay was honored to host the Cape Fear Literacy Council’s dress rehearsal performance of the “Path To Freedom” on June 17th. A cast of 11 gave a readers’ theater presentation of the relationship between George Washington and his slave William (Billy) Lee, whom most of us have seen depicted in a famous painting of their crossing the Delaware during the American Revolution. The compelling story of how Lee finally gained his freedom was told from the slave’s point of view.
