A Heart for Service: Spotlight on Chuck Rogalski
For more than seven years, Chuck Rogalski has been a cornerstone of the Cape Fear Literacy Council, enriching the lives of students and shaping the organization’s growth both in and out of the classroom. His journey with CFLC began after he retired to the Landfall community in Wilmington NC following a busy international career, but instead of slowing down, Chuck decided to give back in a powerful way.
Since joining CFLC, Chuck has contributed an astounding 1,856 hours to teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults who are striving to improve their lives. His passion for helping others master a new language has transformed his students’ futures. Whether working one-on-one or leading an online class, Chuck ensures that each of his students feels seen, supported, and part of the CFLC community.
Chuck’s influence extends far beyond the classroom. As a two-term Board member, he chairs the Governance Committee and has contributed his expertise to the Finance and Executive Committees, as well as the Future Planning Committee. Blending his corporate experience with a spirit of service, Chuck has played a key role in guiding CFLC through a transformative period of growth and setting the stage for us to evolve strategically. As Board President Caroline Scorza says, “We are so fortunate to have had Chuck’s gravitas and heart on our leadership team.” Although Chuck’s term will end in 2025, his impact will be felt for years to come. And, in true Chuck fashion, he’s promised to always be available if we need him.
What truly sets Chuck apart is his thoughtfulness and humility in everything he does. His ability to dive deep into the details while maintaining a clear view of the bigger picture has been instrumental in CFLC’s success. Whether preparing for a Board meeting or a class, his dedication shines through, and his passion for literacy and education is evident to everyone who works with him. One of Chuck’s students, Jose, said it best: “Now my class is not a class; it’s family.”
