Cape Fear Literacy Council COVID-19 Response

Cape Fear Literacy Council COVID-19 Response

Our offices and classrooms remain closed to the public at this time.

We will continue to follow executive orders issued by NC Governor Cooper, as well as guidelines and recommendations put forth by the CDC, in an effort to ensure the well-being of our staff, our students, and our families. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at info@cfliteracy.org and the appropriate team member will respond.  Thank you for being a part of our community.

CFLC’s mission is going strong.

Literacy Council staff has been working remotely, and many of our volunteers and students have as well. In our survey of tutors, we got this happy response that some good work continues by phone/computer-based meetings:

“Actually, Barbara and I are studying together! At the same time, and for 1 1/2 hours on both Mondays and Wednesdays!” ~ Tutor, Margaret

[A couple of things they are focusing on are]:

  • “Reading her Sunday School Lesson. She even dropped off a King James Version of her Bible. Mine is the Catholic edition — while the thoughts are basically the same, the words are not, and in this instance, the words are the most important!
  • Continuing to read “Becoming” by Michelle Obama. While our pace is slow, we are reading more of it than when we met at CFLC.”

Cheers to Barbara and Margaret, and to each member of our CFLC community, for strengthening the ties that keep us connected during social distancing!
