The Cape Fear Literacy Council will offer English as a Second Language Tutor Training, 6:30-9:30 p.m. June 9-11 at 1012 S. 17th St.

To become a certified ESL tutor, a volunteer must attend nine hours of training and observe two classes to gain the basic skills needed to help an ESL student succeed. The ESL Tutor Training includes techniques and content for working with adult speakers of other languages. The focus is on strategies for developing listening, speaking, reading, writing and vocabulary skills to help students navigate everyday life and to achieve academic goals. Tutors do not need to speak another language to tutor an ESL student.

Workshop material fees are $30 if you will be volunteering at CFLC, Interfaith Refugee Ministry or Winter Park Baptist Church. The cost is $50 if you are getting certified for another organization.
