WILMINGTON | The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has donated $10,000 to the Cape Fear Literacy Council to support local literacy programs. The grant is part of more than $5.8 million awarded by Dollar General to approximately 720 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 43 states the company serves.
The literacy council will use the funds to support programs aimed at enhancing family and adult literacy programs. That includes promoting childhood summer reading, helping adults learn to read, and preparing folks for the high school equivalency exam.
Founded in 1984, the council provide individualized literacy services so that adults and their families in the Cape Fear region can meet their goals and develop their potential.
