Perry Wins Literacy Legacy Award

Alan Perry, owner of Perry’s Emporium, received the second annual Literacy Legacy Award from the local Cape Fear Literacy Council. The award presentation was a highlight of the council’s “Around the World in 80 Days” fundraiser gala, held at the Wilmington Convention Center on March 1.

The night also marked the Cape Fear Literacy Council’s 29th anniversary.The award recognized Perry as a “long-time Cape Fear Literacy Council volunteer who has shown extraordinary, enduring commitment to literacy and CFLC,” according to a news release.Perry accepted his award in a surprise ceremony on stage.

The Cape Fear Literacy Council partners with volunteers and tutors to provide small group classes and one-on-one tutor services to adults in the Cape Fear region, according to the release.
