Small Classes

We run small group classes for adults who want to learn to English. We work with people from 18 different countries around the world. We emphasize speaking, listening, grammar, and pronunciation. There are classes for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students.

Small scheduled classes are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Students must register in advance – call us at 251-0911 to set up an appointment or come by the Literacy Council to see Barb Monday-Thursday between 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. Classes are free and books are provided.

Advanced conversation and grammar classes held each week on Monday and Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.

ESOL Computer Lab

If students don't have time to attend classes, they can learn English in our Computer Lab in their free time, working at their own pace. We have software at all levels including TOEFL. The Computer Lab is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Use of the computer lab is free.

Individual Tutoring

The Cape Fear Literacy Council has a limited number of trained volunteers who can tutor ESOL students one-to-one. Services are: free, confidential, flexible, and individualized.
